In order to strengthen Israeli society, the topic of education is a top priority, with an emphasis on Israel’s peripheral regions. Many of our efforts focus on the field of municipal projects such as building preschools, pedagogical centres and public libraries.
Preschools
In the wake of the large waves of aliyah to Israel in the 1950s and 1960s, and the need to provide quick solutions for the absorption of new immigrants, United Israel Appeal Canada built 65 preschools and daycare centres throughout the country, from Kiryat Shmona in the north to Arad in the south. This act helped provide a solid educational infrastructure to Israeli children from an early age.
Pedagogical Centres
One of the ways to improve education is through increasing the capabilities of teachers in the educational system. We have thus developed pedagogical centres in Kiryat Shmona and Beer Sheva (The Greenberg Centre), with the goal of improving the formal and informal educational frameworks in Israel.
Public Libraries
Libraries provide for the needs of a variety of age groups in society, from young children to the elderly. In an effort to provide the public with essential resources for learning and enjoyment, we have assisted in equipping the reading rooms of a number of libraries in Israel, including Kiryat Shmona, Kfar Yona, Kfar Gvirol, Nes Tziona, Beer Sheva and Yeruham.
