Israel and Overseas Steering Committee

Starting with Project Renewal in the late 1970s through the current Partnership 2000, including the flagship Gesher Hai program, Israeli communities have collaborated with Jewish communities and Federations abroad on numerous joint endeavors. With over three decades of experience, we have concluded that steering committees comprised of Israeli and Canadian lay and professional leaders – a first for Israel-Diaspora relations – represent the best way to reach practical decisions regarding program implementation within these frameworks.

To maintain the level of communication and cooperation necessary for such ventures to succeed, committee members meet twice annually to determine how best to utilize the financial resources available to each Partnership region. The meetings are held both in Israel, (at least once a year) and in Canada, enabling each partner to gain a deeper understanding of the other side.

Magbit Canada’s Missions Department, in cooperation with the Jewish Agency, organizes Canadian steering committee members’ visits to Israel. From the moment a delegation arrives until it departs, participants devote their entire time in the country to core issues, including evaluating ongoing programs, reviewing new initiatives, and creating a working plan aimed at responding to needs in the upcoming year.

Among the range of Magbit Israel services on behalf of the Israeli and Canadian communities, these missions represent the highest level of interaction between the two sides, helping us achieve a successful partnership that fully meets our mutual goals. With over three decades of success, the Israel and Overseas Steering Committees result in not only outstanding community achievements, but also a strong sense of personal satisfaction among all participants.

As the Canadian Jewish Federations representative in Israel, we disperse and monitor funds,
and touch the lives of thousands of Israelis and Canadians daily through our
projects, programs and other activities.
