Regional Scholarships
We offer a range of regional scholarships that help ensure social, economic and cultural advancement in developing areas throughout Israel, particularly in the North and South. Such aid gives young adults the opportunity to achieve professional and financial stability. But that’s not all - it also provides developing regions with a solid student population base that will have a greater incentive to settle nearby after completing their studies, thereby making a positive economic and social impact on these communities.
Magbit Canada’s range of regional scholarships includes:
Registration of students pursuing higher education studies in the North dropped significantly prior to the 2006-2007 academic year. In response, the Jewish Agency Student Scholarship Fund, which receives donations from Magbit Canada (UIAC), was established to help ensure the pursuit of higher education and stability of institutions in the region. In exchange for aid, students are required to perform community service, thereby strengthening their bond with the region and its population.
The Rabinovitch Family Scholarship Fund, established out of Montreal in 1996, awards annual grants to Metulla residents studying a range of subjects at higher learning institutions.
The Rabinovitch Family Scholarship Fund also provides aid to Israeli students from the Galilee Panhandle who are pursuing medical degrees.
The Norman and Barbara Newman Scholarship Fund, established out of Halifax in 1994, provides aid to high-school graduates who live and study along the northern border confrontation line.
The Or Yehuda Fund enables students from this development town in central Israel the opportunity to study a range of subjects, from medicine and agriculture to science and technology at local universities.
The UJA Federation of Greater Toronto invests in scholarships to support academic growth in its partnership region of Eilat-Eilot. The scholarships, targeted to both local residents and incoming students who relocate to the region to study, are primarily earmarked for studies at the Ben-Gurion University campus in Eilat.
